UK records 38,409 coronavirus cases and 15 deaths in latest daily figures – Evening Standard

he UK has recorded a further 38,409 Covid cases on Monday, according to the Government’s latest daily figures.
The daily case numbers includes reinfections in England and Northern Ireland that are more than 90 days after a previous positive test.
The total is based on positive lab-confirmed PCR tests in all four nations of the UK, plus most positive lateral flow tests reported in England and all lateral flow tests reported in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
A further 15 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19, bringing the total to 160,610, the Government said.
These figures now include deaths in England following possible reinfections of Covid.
A total of 52,573,589 first doses of Covid-19 vaccine had been delivered in the UK by February 20, Government figures show.
This is a rise of 5,470 on the previous day.
Some 48,885,893 second doses have been delivered, an increase of 10,564.
A combined total of 38,022,801 booster and third doses have been given, a day-on-day rise of 18,602.
Separate totals for booster and third doses are not available.
It comes the Prime Minister unveiled his plan for ‘Living with Covid’ in the House of Commons on Monday afternoon.
His plans to “learn to live with the virus” including shifting away from government restrictions to “personal responsibility”.
He announced the lifting of all domestic restrictions in Engand on Thursday.
Meanwhile, people will be advised to stay at home for least five days, but from April 1 was removing this as a legal requirement.
Other plans include the end of contact tracing and free testing, although some rapid tests will still be available to certain groups including the most vulnerable.
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said the plan was a “half-baked announcement from a government paralysed by chaos and incompetence”
