Time is ticking along towards Thursday night’s transfer deadline and Manchester United still have plenty of business to conclude. Thankfully for Erik ten Hag and transfer chief John Murtough, a major breakthrough in negotiations for Antony could pave the way for other deals to kick up a notch.
After months of pushing from both the player and the club, it looks like United may finally get their hands on Antony with Ajax admitting defeat following a mammoth bid. The Brazilian had been left out of the past two matchday squads as he tried to force through a move.
PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo remains an attacking target and could follow Antony to the Premier League in a move that would be even more likely if Cristiano Ronaldo jumps ship. The Portuguese is once again being shopped around Europe by super-agent Jorge Mendes and it remains to be seen whether anyone will bite before September 1.
Manchester United look set to keep Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer, despite his peripheral role in Erik ten Hag’s plans.
According to The Athletic, Crystal Palace and West Ham United have seen late approaches turned down by United.
Ten Hag wants two players in each position, and offloading Wan-Bissaka would leave little time to find a replacement ahead of Thursday’s deadline.
Antony looked to be in high spirits as he was filmed arriving at Carrington ahead of completing his £85m move from Ajax on Monday evening.
Manchester United could announce the signing of the 22-year-old winger on Tuesday, with his medical likely going down as we speak.
And @ALLEPLGOALS have released footage of Antony arriving at the club’s training base to finalise his arrival.

Martin Dubravka will undergo his Manchester United medical on Tuesday ahead of a season-long loan move to Old Trafford, Fabrizio Romano reports.
United have agreed a loan deal with Newcastle United, with the option to buy him for £5m next summer.
Sky Sports claim the clause will become an obligation if Dubravka makes a certain number of appearances.Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.Cristiano Ronaldo’s desire to leave Manchester United emerged in July, but the dressing room reaction may be surprising.
ESPN report that his intention to depart was met by ‘joy’ amongst most of his United teammates.
It’s claimed many believe Ronaldo has become a ‘pain in the a**e’ as he digs his heels in for a Champions League move.
Napoli is his most realistic destination at this stage, but anything could happen before Thursday’s deadline.
Ajax winger Antony will undergo his Manchester United medical on Monday ahead of his £85m move.
The Athletic report Antony is expected to complete medical checks this evening after United agreed to make him the Dutch Eredivisie’s most expensive export over the weekend.
Reports claim he is unlikely to be registered in time to face Leicester City on Thursday due to work permit issues.
But the 22-year-old Brazilian could make his debut against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Reported Manchester United target Sergino Dest is likely to stay at Barcelona this summer, according to Jonathan Shrager.
The USMNT right-back has been linked with a move to Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag eyes an upgrade on his current options.
But he is set to remain at the Nou Camp beyond the summer transfer window, with United unlikely to recruit unless Aaron Wan-Bissaka leaves.
Napoli have launched an all-out pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
The Manchester Evening News report that Napoli have held talks with Jorge Mendes and are pushing for a permanent deal.
They are understood to be willing to settle for a loan move due to time constraints, with Manchester United figures expecting Mendes to try and facilitate an exit late in the window.
Erik ten Hag is happy to let Ronaldo leave after starting him in just one of his four games in charge so far, the 4-0 defeat at Brentford.
Reports in Italy have claimed Napoli striker Victor Osimhen could be involved in a potential deal.Cristiano Ronaldo applauds the Man Utd fans.Manchester United have reached an agreement with Newcastle United to sign goalkeeper Martin Dubravka this week.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle have agreed to let Dubravka join on a season-long loan with the option to buy for £5m.
Sky Sports report that clause becomes an obligation if the 33-year-old Slovak makes a certain number of appearances this term.
He will likely be Erik ten Hag’s sixth summer signing, with Antony’s £85m switch from Ajax set to be announced in the next 48 hours.
Manchester United are poised to miss out on Sasa Kalajdzic, who was thought to be on their attacking wish list at various points this summer.
The Athletic claim that Wolves have come to an agreement with Stuttgart on a £15.4million deal. Kalajdzic is poised to sign a five-year contract with the option of an additional 12 months.
United’s interest in the 6ft 7in frontman was confirmed to Express Sport earlier in the summer but the likes of Antony and Cody Gakpo have edged ahead in the pecking order for Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United youngster Hannibal Mejbri is close to joining Birmingham City on a season-long loan, according to various reports.
The Tunisian international has a collection of offers in the table, including from Spanish second-tier side FC Andorra, who are owned by Barcelona star Gerard Pique.
But it looks like Birmingham City will win the race for the 19-year-old. Most of Mejbri’s senior football has come with Tunisia and he could feature at the World Cup later this year.
In a show of faith from Erik ten Hag, the youngster is expected to be handed a new contract before leaving.
To fan the flames of speculation into overdrive, fellow Manchester United target Memphis Depay has also been spotted at the airport preparing to fly to London.
Spanish football journalist Samuel Marsden has urged caution, however, by pointing out that Barca players have been given two days off and the Depay and De Jong are travelling together to London for personal reasons.
Both players have supposedly been deemed expendable by La Blaugrana this summer and both have been linked to clubs in England.
Frenkie de Jong has been spotted at the airport in Barcelona preparing to fly to London, according to El Chiringuito
Manchester United and Chelsea are both linked but De Jong’s destination would hint that the Blues hold the upper hand.
Thomas Tuchel is well-stocked for midfielders but Crystal Palace have just lodged a permanent £27million bid for Conor Gallagher.
United and Barcelona had already agreed on a £72m fee for De Jong which Chelsea could match before Thursday’s deadline. Frenkie de JongNo, Manchester United fans, it’s not for Frenkie de Jong, but it’s an exciting one nonetheless.
According to Sport, Barca and the Red Devils are in talks over a swap deal involving Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Sergino Dest.
Erik ten Hag has promoted Diogo Dalot to the starting spot at right-back with Wan-Bissaka unfancied and deemed expendable.
Talks are ‘intensifying’ between the two clubs as Thursday’s deadline draws nearer. Dest appeared 21 times in La Liga last season, setting up three goals.
While many Manchester United fans are rejoicing in the news that Erik ten Hag is about to land his top attacking target in Antony, others perceive the saga to have been soured over the price tag.
Ajax held out for £84million this late in the window but they were supposedly willing to do business for significantly less than that several months ago. United’s deal for fellow Ajax star Lisandro Martinez is thought to have bumped the price up with manager Alfred Schreuder forced to wave goodbye to a number of top players in recent weeks.
@mitchwilks was among those to react on Twitter, writing: “Could probably have got Antony for half the price they’re paying if they’d have actually listened to their new manager when he first arrived – they didn’t. They’re now overpaying massively, and now Murtough is getting a pat on the back.”
Manchester United may have an incentive to make a final push for Frenkie de Jong with the Barcelona midfielder struggling for game time under Xavi.
The Dutchman resisted interest from Old Trafford in favour of staying at the Camp Nou this summer, despite Barca’s need to reshuffle their wage bill.
United chased De Jong for months but took a step back after landing Casemiro from Real Madrid, despite the fact Ten Hag remains an admirer of the Barcelona star.
As De Jong gets to grips with a reduced role under Xavi, United may get the result they want with one more bid before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
Manchester United made a late check on the availability of Everton youngster Anthony Gordon before striking an £84million deal for Antony, according to The Athletic
Gordon has attracted plenty of interest this summer after a superb breakthrough campaign at Goodison Park in 2021/22.
Chelsea are also thought to be monitoring the possibility of a move but the Toffees reportedly want £60m.
United’s move for Antony, which could be sealed within the next 48 hours, may kill any lingering desire to land Gordon but the Red Devils are supposedly keen to sign one more attacker before the transfer deadline.

Blues co-owner Todd Boehly is thought to be keen on signing the Portuguese but Thomas Tuchel has reservations and would prefer to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang instead.
Ronaldo reportedly asked to leave Old Trafford last month but he has since been unable to find a new club with the likes of Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid distancing themselves from a potential swoop.
While Man Utd’s swoop for Antony now appears to be a formality, Ten Hag is also thought to be eyeing up another attacking recruit.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Cody Gakpo have both been touted as options. Sky Sports claim that United are ‘keeping an eye’ on the former, while a double Eredivisie deal for the latter has been described as ‘not impossible’.
PSV Eindhoven, managed by United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, are believed to value Gakpo in the region of £34million.
Antony could undergo his Man Utd medical today after the Red Devils and Ajax agreed on a total package worth £85million.
Sky Sports claim that the Brazilian will arrive in England for tests on Tuesday at the latest with United in a rush to move onto other transfer interests.
Personal terms are expected to be concluded rapidly with Antony keen to reunite with his former Ajax boss, Erik ten Hag.
The 22-year-old was left out of Ajax’s matchday squad on Sunday for the second game running.
