Jurassic World Dominion Inches Toward a Major Milestone – CBR – Comic Book Resources

Reports show Universal Pictures’ conclusion to its dinosaur-sized trilogy, Jurassic World Dominion, is inching toward a major box office milestone.
After over two months, Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World Dominion, the conclusion to the iconic new trilogy, inches near a major box office milestone– one hit by only the biggest and best films Hollywood studios have to offer.
According to Deadline, Jurassic World Dominion reached $990.4 million over the weekend, inching its way to the $1 billion mark at the box office. The report also suggests whether or not it hits the milestone relies largely on Japan, which was the last territory to see Dominion released. Abroad, the film has earned a collective $615.6 million, while domestically, Dominion grossed $374.7 million.

What makes Dominion's earnings across the Aug. 28 weekend much more notable, regardless of whether or not the film hit $1 billion, is the fact that it marked the entire franchise's arrival at the $6 billion milestone. To be sure, that's the collective total across the three Jurassic Park films as well as the Jurassic World trilogy.
While Jurassic World Dominion has not yet been unable to surpass the $1.3 billion earnings of its predecessor, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the latest instalment in the franchise has been able to beat many of 2022's biggest blockbusters, including Thor: Love and Thunder, which earned $746 million; Elvis, at $276 million; and DC League Of Super-Pets' $146.5 million.
The theatrical release of Universal Pictures' latest release may have ultimately proven itself a financial success, but it was unable to impress critics upon release, with some going so far as to call it the weakest entry in the entire franchise. Despite overall praise going toward the film's visual effects, reviews criticized the film's over-the-top plot and uninteresting characters.

Following a successful release in theaters, Jurassic World Dominion is scheduled to be released on to the Peacock streaming service on Sept. 2, along with its extended version, which includes 14 minutes of extra footage. However, Trevorrow recently claimed the description "extended" may not be entirely accurate.
In a recent interview, the director explained the version that will be available for streaming will actually reflect his original vision for Dominion, stating, "So to have to go and try to figure out which of your darlings to kill, which can go. It really wasn't that I went back and did a director's cut, it's just that we have been honestly given a gift of being able to share the original film."
Jurassic World Dominion hits Peacock on Sept. 2. The film is available now on Digital, 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray.
